Fight against fuel losses: CAEN RFID and DATATRONIC present BlueTank, the best solution to save Diesel on your company fuel station

Vienna, July, 23rd 2013

The Austrian company DATATRONIC GmbH
developed a system which helps to avoid loss of Diesel on companies own fuelling stations. The heart of the system is the BlueTank® device based on the CAEN RFID ultra-compact UHF module, Quark (model R1230CB).

“The adopted CAEN RFID module is an important added value in our system. The Quark provides a unique combination of light ergonomics and high tag reading capability. In addition the very low power consumption helps us to save our device battery life. ” says Wolfgang Peiritsch, CEO of DATATRONIC.

The Software of the system automatically registers all refuelling events and prevents misuse and stealing. Authorised vehicles are identified by a transponder which is fixed close to the fuel neck and not just by reading the drivers badge or fuel card. “Amortisation time is typically 1 month assures Wolfgang Peiritsch, the CEO of DATATRONIC.

Vehicle fuel prices are constantly rising.
Transport, Construction companies, Bus and Public Service companies, and others who operate Vehicle fleets, trucks, cars, buses, Vans and other Fuel driven Machinery would like to know how much fuel has been taken, By Who, Where, When, Which Vehicle/User.
By Capturing the exact data and continuous monitoring of fuel used, fuel Monitoring/Saving programs could give up to 30% fuel cost savings, including the prevention of criminal misuse.

Fully automatic recording of all refuelling events

The solution is quite simple.
On every related fuel filling nozzle a BlueTank® reader is fixed.
On the refuelling neck of the vehicle a transponder is fixed.
The fuel pump is activated only if the transponder is in a white (authorised) list.

This makes sure: Refuelling of company vehicles is only possible by vehicle identification. Misuses of the system are made impossible.

The Transponder

The transponder has a worldwide unique ID.
The BlueTank® reader detects the transponder ID using RFID system (based on CAEN RFID Quark module, R1230CB).
The ID is transferred by Bluetooth (up to 100m) to a controller which is connected to the pump switch and the fuel flow meter. The white list is stored in the controller, if the vehicles transponder ID is in the white list the pump will switch on, if not no fuel will flow.
The controller communicates by GSM/GPRS or Ethernet IP or RS232/485 and sends the transaction data to a Server/PC. In mobile applications the position data are monitored by GPS.

The Software

The software is typically web based working on your web browser.
The software manages vehicles and vehicles ID’s, drivers and dispensers. Data can be imported and exported, reports printed.
Data is stored directly in the controller; this allows the system to work off line without connection to a server. Refuelling is possible round a clock 24/7. Export of the data to ERP or management software like SAP, is at any time possible.
The transponder memory can be programmed with any other data, using a CAEN RFID desktop reader/writer Slate (model R1260I).

The vehicle ID’s can be “teached in” to the white list by reading the already fixed vehicle transponder with TagTrans reader which is connected to the controller in the same way as the BlueTank® system by Bluetooth.

ROI within a month

The BlueTank® system amortisation is by fuel savings.

An example:
A company’s petrol station has two nozzles for 100 trucks which means around 1 million in costs for the Diesel. The typical savings are according to several users in construction industry about 10%.
Considering costs of about 10.000,- for the BlueTank® system the ROI is within a month, in addition you get fully automatic records of all refuelling actions, 24 hours operational availability, loan cost savings due to unmanned operation. These are evidentiary arguments for BlueTank® system.

“DATATRONIC is the first one company proposing an UHF RFID system for this kind of market and we supported them in the best way to reach the desired performances. Today many companies are careful to save money and the BlueTank® system helps them in this process” says Luca Nardini, Sales Manager of CAEN RFID.

About CAEN RFID
CAEN RFID is a leading Italian company in the design and production of RFID UHF readers and tags. CAEN RFID was the first company in Europe to produce and distribute UHF readers. Its active involvement in the EPC Global, AIM Europe and ETSI work groups have allowed it to provide RFID readers and tags which are in the vanguard of existing technology. Amongst these the easy2read© readers/writers have been designed to permit the use of one single identification technology for reading either at close range or at a range of several meters; the semi-passive easy2log© tag can be used for the monitoring and recording of temperatures of perishable products in transit (such as food or chemical/pharmaceutical products in cold storage).
